1. General Questions
What is the BIOPTRON Light
Therapy System (BLTS)?
The BLTS is a medical device technology based on a unique light therapy
concept. It can be used for prophylactic treatments, therapy and rehabilitation
in a variety of medical areas. More than 15 years of experience and
ongoing scientific and clinical research in a variety of applications
are providing the foundation of this therapy.
Are there different devices?
Yes. In order to assure the best-fitting solution for every need, the
range of the BLTS is including three different types of devices. They
differ in size and design, but are emitting light with identical physical
and technical characteristics. The approximate filter diameter varies
from 4 cm (Bioptron Compact III) to 11cm (Bioptron Pro 1) up to 15 cm
(Bioptron 2).
Are there any floor-stands
for the devices?
Yes. The BIOPTRON Pro 1 is available either with table stand or with
floor stand. For the BIOPTRON Compact III and for the BIOPTRON 2 we
recommend one of the optional available floor stands. Not only that
the stand increases the comfort of treating, furthermore it expands
the device-capacity by making it possible to treat areas of the body,
which are difficult to reach without stand.
Are the BIOPTRON Light Therapy
devices medically approved?
Yes. They are approved as medical devices according to 93/42/EEC (the
EEC-directive competent for Medical Products). This is the responsible
and official European directive for all medical products, which are
produced and sold in the EEC.
Are the BIOPTRON Light Therapy
devices of Swiss origin, i. e. made, developed and manufactured in Switzerland?
Yes. All BIOPTRON products are manufactured in our own Swiss production
facilities. -
Is the BIOPTRON Light Therapy
used only by medical professionals or also by end-users?
BLT is being used by medical professionals as well as by end-users.
There are three different types of devices available in order to assure
the best-fitting solution for every individual need - for the medical
professionals as well as for the private home-users.
2. Application Questions
In which medical areas can
BIOPTRON Light Therapy be used?
For specified medical indications in the areas of Wound Healing and
Pain Treatment.
In Wound Healing: For which
kind of wounds can BIOPTRON Light Therapy be used?
For leg ulcers, for decubitus (pressure sores), for burns and for wound
healing after operations and after traumas (injuries).
In Pain Treatment: For which
kind of pains can BIOPTRON Light Therapy be used?
For pain related to rheumatology, to physiotherapy and to sports medicine.
Is it necessary to consult
a medical doctor before using BIOPTRON Light Therapy (BLT)?
In connection with treating medical indications, it is generally recommended
to consult a physician before using BLT in order to receive professional
advise whether this treatment is recommendable or whether other medical
treatment is necessary.
How should I apply the BIOPTRON
Light Therapy?
Every device includes a detailed Operating Instruction booklet. Please
read it carefully and follow the application instructions given therein.
What is the duration of a
therapy session and how often is it applied?
One session takes about 4 to 10 minutes once or twice a day. The duration
of the entire course of treatment depends on different parameters like
the reason for the treatment or the condition of the treated area.
Are there special times during
the day when the use of the BIOPTRON Light Therapy is recommendable?
No. The BLT can be applied any time of day. Preferably while you have
time to relax and can thus enjoy its biostimulative effect. During the
period of treatment regular use is recommended.
Are the devices easy to operate?
Yes. All BLT devices are very user-friendly, handy and easy to apply.
How should the treatment
area be prepared before a therapy session?
The treatment area should be clean and not coated. When treating open
wounds any dressings have to be removed and the usual wound cleaning
should be performed before applying BIOPTRON Light (under physicians
supervision).
Is it important to keep the
device in a specific distance and position?
Yes. Hold the device at a right angle of 90° and maintain it at
a distance of approx. 10 cm (4 inches) from the skin.
Does the BIOPTRON Light Therapy
have any harmful side effects?
The BLT is being used for more than 15 years and until now no harmful
side effects are known.
3. Characteristics Questions
What are the unique characteristics
of BIOPTRON Light?
The coaction of the following four characteristics is deciding for the
beneficial effects:
- polarization
- polychromy
- incoherency
- low energy.
What does polarization mean?
BIOPTRON Light is polarized light. This means that its waves move on
parallel planes. In the BIOPTRON Light polarization reaches a degree
of approximately 95%.
What does polychromy mean?
BIOPTRON Light is a polychromatic light. This means it contains not
only one wavelength (like laser-light), but a wide range including visible
light and a part of the infrared range. BIOPTRON Light does not contain
UV radiation!
What does incoherency mean?
As opposed to laser light, BIOPTRON Light is incoherent or out-of-phase
light. This means, that the light waves are not synchronized.
What is the wavelength of
BIOPTRON Light?
The wavelength of BIOPTRON Light is 480 - 3400 nm - hence it is a combination
of the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum and near infrared
light.
Does BIOPTRON Light contain
ultraviolet radiation?
- No. BL is completely free of UV radiation.
What is the difference between
sunlight and BIOPTRON Light?
In contrast to natural sunlight the technically synthesized BIOPTRON
Light provides light therapy with controllable and therefore reproducible
parameters.

How long is the guarantee
period for the BIOPTRON Light Therapy devices?
Bioptron Light Therapy Systems have a 1 year manufacturer warranty.
