Description: The Memory Foam Overlay Mattress Designer Supreme is designed to be used on top of the existing mattress. This is a UK manufactured visco elastic memory foam mattress overlay used widely within the UK Healthcare and private market. The product is tested to the current strictest NHS mattress British flame retardant standard. This overlay mattress is made from 6cm High Grade Visco Elastic Memory Foam, a foam known for "it moulds as you move", reducing the need to reposition during the night and reducing pressure points dramatically. It is important to consider the added depth of any overlay mattresses on top of the standard bed mattress - if they are too deep it can be uncomfortable or difficult to get in and out of bed, too shallow and the mattress will have little or no pressure care properties. When areas of the body have been over stressed by prolonged pressure we automatically move position and redistribute weight. If an area becomes warm the cells require more oxygen, if the area is too cold the cells will automatically produce less energy. In both cases the cells are prone to damage (bedsores - pressure sores). The areas of the body most likely to be affected are those bony prominences close to the surface - i.e. shoulder blades, elbows, sacrum, hips (pelvis) and heels. Even if not 'at risk' of developing pressure sores, general fatigue and degeneration, particularly in the spinal region, cause us to reposition throughout our sleep in order to relieve aches and pains. Visco Elastic Memory Foam is an advanced material originally developed for the NASA space programme to relieve the pressure built up from the G-Force experienced by astronauts during lift offs. This material has the properties of taking heat and weight of the body and it conforms to the body contours. Foams are available in different grades and densities, all of which affect price and performance of any mattress or mattress topper; this memory foam is high-grade density memory foam to assure optimum pressure relief, comfort and longevity of the foam. The Designer Supreme mattress toppers are available with standard fleece velour cover for general home use or alternatively a vapour permeable wipe cover, which protects the foam from any accidental spillages or when user circumstances require a water repellent cover.
